The days of manually cutting out elements opal frost and crystal effect vinyls – a process known as ‘weeding’ – have been relegated to the past thanks to an innovative new product release from the optically-clear PET printed window film specialist DigiGlass.
DigiFrost uses a unique high definition printing process that exploits a combination of light grey and white inks to replicate the effect of Opal Frost. Any image, no matter how complicated or intricate, can be printed onto 50 or 100 micron optically-clear window film without the need for any post print ‘weeding’ or backing tape.

DigiGlass md Dave Macdonald says: “The manual component of producing cut opal frost is exceedingly onerous both in terms of time and money. DigiFrost removes this hassle with outstanding effects to save hours of manual work for sign and glazing companies.”
In addition to the time and cost savings, DigiGlass says the product has numerous other advantages over traditional vinyl solutions. Graphics can be seamless for a better finish and have no edges that might attract picking or other damage.
The manufacturer says the range also blocks 99% of all incoming UV light and reduces solar energy by 16%.

“This is an exciting development for DigiGlass,” says MacDonald. “We look forward to working with companies to offer this unique frosted window film solution”.

Following months of testing and refining, the DigiGlass team has also been working to improve not only the quality of the printed image but also the colour density and opacity of its finished printed window film. As a result, the warranty on its products has been extended to 12 years. With many traditional vinyl solutions providing a seven-year warranty, this Digiglass says this provides it with a further differentiator in a growing market. Macdonald says: “We have always strived to be at the cutting edge of the window film industry. This latest development has enabled us to provide our customers with an unrivalled warranty that reflects our confidence in the quality of our product.

“With a growing global client base we are working harder than ever to continually evolve and improve our products and move the industry forward. We are certain that a 12 year warranty will be an important factor for architects, designers and agencies looking for the best solution for their internal and external glazed areas.”

DigiGlass provide a clear polyester-based PET window film with shatterproof and bombproof protection. Using a unique five colour printing process on the film that includes CMYK and white UV inks, DigiGlass provides optically clear window graphics that appear as though they are printed direct to glass.

The window film also carries a UK Class 0 Fire rating allowing it to be legally applied to glazing in all public spaces. The films shatterproof and fire retardant properties combined with its high definition visual impact has lead to it being in demand from architects, interior designers, transport companies, retail outlets, hospitals and design agencies, says the firm.
