Proofing system pairs with Roland to provide graphics solution

Colour management and proofing solutions provider CGS Publishing Technologies International has teamed up with inkjet printer/cutter manufacturer Roland DG Benelux to provide proofs for flexible packaging.

The system built around Roland's VersaUV LEC-330 printer, makes it possible to produce highly accurate contract proofs on any kind of substrate, including composite or shrink film, say the companies.
In addition to CMYK, the printer prints white and a clear coating. The revolutionary Roland ECO-UV inks give a very wide colour gamut and remain flexible, particularly important for the production of packaging samples. CGS ORIS Color Tuner Web software addresses the entire colour gamut of the printer and ORIS ScreenDot feature directly processes 1-Bit-data, producing perfect colour-accurate halftone proofs. Using the original screening information allows users to detect screening-related problems like moirés or artifacts at a very early stage, avoiding costly remakes, says CGS. Optional ORIS ScreenDot Plus produces halftone proofs from customers’ continuous tone files.

Trevor Haworth, ceo at CGS, says: "We are delighted to partner with Roland DG. They have always been at the cutting-edge of graphic solutions and by combining both of our technologies, prepress and package-printing companies now have a solution for producing colour-accurate contract halftone proofs or mock-ups on any packaging substrate. Roland DG and CGS already enjoy considerable success in Japan with continuous tone applications of the product; the inclusion of contract quality screened proofing now addresses the specific needs of the packaging industry."

Following field tests at a leading German pre-press company, ORIS Color Tuner Web for the LEC-330 will have its official debut at IPEX at the Roland DG stand in hall 12, no. 12-C140.

"We have of course been familiar with the award-winning CGS color management solutions in the past, particularly on the Japanese market," says Michel Van Vliet, Product Manager of Roland DG Benelux. "For us, the superior CGS color management technology and intimate market know-how has been a key to enter this very demanding and growing market segment. I am sure that in the very near future this partnership will also extend into other applications, like large format printing or display graphics.

"Users are increasingly confronted with demands for consistent color meeting ISO standards. Our current and future customers will substantially benefit from CGS' expertise and our close cooperation. We are currently already working with CGS on integrating the ORIS solution with other Roland printers, such as the VersaCAMM VS-640 inkjet printer/cutter, featuring up to 8 colors including white, and a genuine metallic ink."
