Roland DG hails 'largest and most advanced' cutting plotter

Days before FESPA opens its doors in Munich, Germany, Roland DG has launched its latest cutting plotter.
The 1.6m wide CAMM-1 PRO GX-640 is, according to a company release, Roland DG's largest and most advanced cutter ever.

The GX-640 cuts a range of materials including vinyl, polyester, polyurethane, sand blast and flock. Roland DG says it can also be employed to cut window tint and paint protection film. Other applications include vehicle graphics and window decoration.

As is the case with other GX cutting plotters, the GX-640 is compatible with Roland DG’s VersaWorks RIP software which is delivered with all Roland printers. By connecting the GX-640 to VersaWorks and to a Roland printer, users can make colourful heat transfers, POP displays, signs, vehicle graphics, labels and decals. The GX-640 also features the Quadralign registration system to optically detect crop marks and cut preprinted graphics.

All CAMM-1 PRO cutters come with CutStudio, Roland DG's own design software. With this package, users can draw or edit circles and other shapes, add texts and import jpg or bmp images. CutStudio is compatible with Windows 7, Vista and XP and includes plug-in software for Illustrator and CorelDRAW. As a result, users of these programs can send data directly to their cutter.

Roland DG is running a promotion for customers in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Slovakia ordering a GX-640 between June 18 and September 18. The company says it will deliver the unit with a copy of CorelDRAW X5, worth some € 700.

Roland DG is exhibiting a full portfolio of products from stand 340 in hall B2 at FESPA. The stand will also feature a workshop on the range of design applications in which metallic inks can be used – the manufacturer introduced metallic ink on its XC-540MT system last year. It is now also available on the VS-640 printer/cutter. By combining this metallic silver ink with CMYK, a broad range of magnificent metallic colours, including gold, bronze and pearlescent are created, says Roland DG.
