Who needs print? 3” thick digital poster system comes to market

Screen industry specialist Esprit Digital has launched what it says is the world’s thinnest large-format, double-sided digital poster.
Graphic Display Community got a sneak preview of the LED-backlit system when it was showcased earlier this month at Screen Expo, in London.

With its built-in media player, the Wafer can be connected via Ethernet, 3G or Wi-Fi, enabling motion graphics and real-time updates to screen content. Esprit Digital says the unit is is suited to both advertising and way-finding applications and also offers touch-screen capabilities – a feature the manufacturer says is particularly potent when used in retail applications.

The Wafer stands over 2m high and is a just 75mm (3”) thick. Sophisticated heat management technology inside the system gives it a low power consumption of under 300w – less than a third of a standard double-sided unit, says Esprit.

The Wafer also comes encased in a vandal-proof stainless steel enclosure to maximise longevity and durability, and as with all Esprit systems, HD content can be uploaded remotely.

James Brenner, Operations Director at Esprit, says the innovation is a: "true media first and can be installed in many different ways. If our customers want a slimline screen hanging from a ceiling, an interactive pod in a shopping centre or even double-sided adverts along an airport walkway, then this new system can easily be adapted to fit.

“Pioneering design has always been massively important to us and we recognise the outdoor industry has a responsibility to reduce its carbon emissions, which is why we’ve ensured that The Wafer is the lowest power consuming display of its kind on the market.”

Esprit’s clients include JCDecaux, CBS Outdoor, Heathrow Express, London Underground and British Airways.
